The Game
David Shaw’s Cardinal entered the spring with both question marks and confidence. Through its three open practices, fans have had opportunities to preview next year’s team.

While the program graduated much of its offensive line, the unit hasn’t missed a beat this spring as it plugged those positions with experienced players that have benefitted from increased playing time in Stanford’s unique seven- and eight-man offensive line formations.

On defense, the Cardinal departures included All-Americans Trent Murphy, Ed Reynolds and Shayne Skov. Stanford has maintained talent here with several young athletes primed to take over.

The most notable area for the 2014 Stanford team could very well be in the skill positions, where Shaw returns almost every impact player with the exception of running back Tyler Gaffney. His departure could lead to a balanced offensive attack in 2014 and fans at this year’s spring game will enjoy the impressive competition at that position with Barry Sanders, Ricky Seale and Kelsey Young all vying for increased playing time.
